Yep, get that question a bit! And fair enough, a quick look around online or in your local shop (or supermarket!) will find stands that look like they do the same job for less than ½ the price of a Sharp Stand, so, what gives? Am I just fleecing my customers and raking in the big bucks?……….. Hardly!
I just think thing need to be made properly.
When people say to me “I could get four of these stands for the price of one Sharp stand”
I generally reply “Yep, and you will!”
And every time one wears out or fails you either can’t use it or you bike is on the ground, either way, inconvenient (not to mention potentially expensive!)
To build something that will last it’s important to use good components. Take the Head Stem Front Stand, I could build this off a Rear Stand, with some pressed brackets for hinges and off we go…..but, that’s not the best way.
The geometry of the stand is incorrect because of the rear stand base being the wrong height for optimum leverage and adapting some kind of hinge off the top is always a compromise.
How do we do it? We get a base frame made to the exact dimensions needed and then get CNC billet machined hinges. Not cheap, but no compromises, just a Front Stand that will work better and last much longer.
Am I the only one doing it this way? Not exactly (see below) but good luck buying one of those!
